Rome – Rete degli Studenti Medi and Unione degli Universitari, the Italian student unions of high school and university students, are concerned about the “Leonarda’s affair” and strongly support the French high school’s student’s protest to demand concrete answers to the Government.

The young student was arrested by the police during a school trip and soon banned from France.

Daniele Lanni, the Chairman of Rete degli Studenti, says: “We stand for public school because it should be the place of integration and protection of the community. We are standing together with our french comrades. Fighting for a real integration means fighting for our future”.

Gianluca Scuccimarra, Chairman of Unione degli Universitari, says: “It is not acceptable what has just happened in France. Europe has been a land of migrants and a land of integration. Today we need a stronger European policy to face this issue. We want Europe to be once again a guarantee for all the human rights, including the right to education for all the different peoples”.
